SUNLIGHT TENNIS

Established 2024 by former Australian professional tennis player Sophie Letcher, Sunlight Tennis is proudly based on Bundjalung Country in Northern New South Wales.

Sophie Letcher grew up in the seaside suburb of Mt Eliza on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, raised in a professional tennis family. Following the footsteps of her parents and older brothers.

A top-ranked Australian tennis player, Sophie was ranked #1 Junior in Australia in 2010 and earned her professional WTA ranking just 15 years old. Her career highlights include a career-high WTA singles ranking of #253, doubles ranking of #367, and competing at the 2011 Australian Open Women’s Grand Slam. At the peak of her career, Sophie recorded wins over several top-100 players.

Tennis excellence runs deep in the Letcher Family. Sophie’s late father, Cliff Letcher, was a world-class doubles players in the 1970-1980s, reaching finals at both Australian Open and US Open, earning a membership in the prestigious Last 8 Club, and achieving world rankings of #52 in singles and #18 in doubles. Her mother, Catherine also competed professionally, reaching a world ranking of #180. Cliff and Cathy even partnered together in mixed doubles at Wimbledon.

Having played tennis her whole life, Sophie now has the honour of sharing her time, skills, knowledge and joy with the community. She holds deep values around children growing up with a meaningful connection to the land and the natural world.

Sophie respectfully acknowledges and honours Bundjalung Country, feeling privileged to live and work on this land.
